Mailbox, phone number and endpoints
Give a run its own email address or phone number, or let it call into your own system, for sign-ups, codes and test data.
Its own mailbox#
Give this test a mailbox: the run gets its own email address to sign up with, and reads the activation link or code your site sends. Included on every plan, the free trial too.
Write it into the test as you would for a person: "Sign up with the test's email address, open the activation email and follow the link."
The tester can also send an email from the run's address, for example a reply to your support inbox; replies come back to the run. A run sends at most 5 emails to other addresses. Mail to a run's own address never leaves Testsy.
Its own phone number#
Give this test a phone number: the run gets its own number; it reads the SMS code your site sends and can take a call. On paid plans.
Checking messages afterwards#
Everything the run received or sent is kept with its result: open the run and the Messages tab (see Proof, replay and video). The run's address and number stop taking messages when the run ends.
Endpoints into your system#
An endpoint is a call into your own system the tester may make during a run, such as "create a voucher" or "look up an order". It sees only the endpoint's name, its description and what the call returned; never the address's secrets.
Add endpoints to a project (Endpoints tab, or add_endpoint):
| Field | |
|---|---|
| Name | Up to 40 characters, for example create_voucher |
| Description | What it does and when to use it, up to 600 characters. This is what the tester reads. |
| Method and address | POST (default), GET, PUT, PATCH or DELETE, and an https address |
| Headers | Up to 20, for example Authorization. Encrypted, never shown again. |
| Body | Optional, with {{param}} placeholders the tester fills in |
Then allow them in the test: Allow endpoint calls. Endpoint calls are on paid plans.
Turning them on#
In a test's options (see Test options), or over the API with options.services: email, sms and call (the phone number), http (endpoints). When the assistant's plan needs one, it is switched on for you, except paid ones on the free trial. A run that asks for a paid one on the free trial is not started.
